The proposed levy is 3.5 mills and is estimated to generate approximately $2,158,000 annually for the Fire Department.
The estimated tax cost is $123 per year for every $100,000 of property value.
This funding would help maintain the Fire Department's current staffing, equipment, training, and emergency response capabilities.
Perrysburg Township taxpayers deserve clear information about how their tax dollars are being used. The Fire Department has worked to control costs, secure outside funding, and maximize available local revenue.
The proposed levy would provide funding to help sustain the staffing, equipment, training, and response capabilities currently serving residents, families, businesses, and visitors throughout Perrysburg Township.
Maintaining these resources helps ensure that a trained and properly equipped Fire Department remains available when the community needs emergency assistance.
The proposed levy will appear on the November General Election ballot.
Since 2012, emergency call volume has increased significantly, while the Fire Department has maintained staffing levels necessary to support timely and reliable emergency response.
2012: 1,642 calls
2025: 2,491 calls
Increase: 52%
5 personnel per shift
Minimum staffing: 4
2 administrative positions: Chief and Fire Prevention
7 personnel per shift
Minimum staffing: 6
3 administrative positions: Chief, Deputy Chief and Fire Prevention
The department is now responding to 52% more calls than in 2012. Current staffing levels support the department's existing emergency response capabilities.
Levy funding helps maintain the department's current staffing, response capabilities, and level of service to the community.
The cost of fire and EMS apparatus has increased substantially over the past decade. Comparing original purchase prices with current replacement costs demonstrates the financial challenge of maintaining the equipment needed for emergency response.
Current replacement costs represent the estimated cost to replace comparable apparatus today, as noted in the table to the left.
Fire and EMS apparatus represent some of the department's largest capital expenses. As replacement costs continue to rise, maintaining reliable funding is essential to maintain existing equipment, plan for future replacements, and preserve the emergency response capabilities our community relies on.
The Fire Department has not increased the levy since 2012, while the cost of providing fire and EMS services has increased substantially.
2012: $2,881,391
2026: $4,694,267
Increase: $1,812,876 — approximately 63%
As a township, Perrysburg Township's Fire & EMS services are funded through four dedicated Fire and EMS levies.
According to the Wood County Auditor's 2025 Pay 2026 Township Estimated Revenue report (see below), the four existing levies are estimated to generate a combined $3,625,031.12 in 2026 revenue.
The Fire Department's 2026 budget is $4,694,267.40.
This means the four existing Fire & EMS levies provide approximately 77% of the department's 2026 budget, with approximately $1,069,236 between current levy revenue and the total budget.
The existing levy structure was established when the cost of providing Fire and EMS services was substantially lower. Since then, the department has experienced increased call volume, higher personnel costs, and significant increases in the cost of apparatus, equipment, maintenance, training, and other operating expenses.
The result is a growing difference between the revenue generated by the existing levy structure and the cost of providing the current level of Fire & EMS service.
Today's Fire & EMS service costs more to provide than it did when the existing levy structure was established.
The levy will provide funding to help maintain the Fire Department's current staffing, equipment, training, and emergency response capabilities.
The Fire Department has consistently worked to secure grants and donations to fund essential equipment, technology, and personnel. These outside resources reduce the amount of local tax revenue needed to support major investments in fire and EMS services.

Total Outside Funding: Nearly $2,000,000
Nearly $2 million in outside funding has been secured for resources that otherwise would have required greater reliance on local tax revenue.
For Perrysburg Township taxpayers, this represents a significant effort to maximize the value of every local tax dollar. Grants and donations have helped fund equipment, technology, and personnel while keeping local revenue available for the ongoing costs of maintaining fire and EMS operations.
Responsible fiscal management means pursuing every available outside funding source before asking local taxpayers to carry the full cost.
